Peugeot was founded as a family business in 1810 and Automobiles Peugeot was created in 1896, making it the oldest car company in the world. On 20 November 1858, Émile Peugeot applied for the lion trademark. Armand Peugeot built the company's first vehicle, a steam-powered tricycle. In 1974, Peugeot bought a share of Citroën and took over it completely in 1975 creating the PSA Peugeot Citroen Group, followed by the takeover of the Chrysler Europe operation with the remnants of the Rootes Group, (Commer, Hillman, Singer, Humber) & Simca in 1978, rebranding them as Talbot, before retiring the brand in 1994. PSA acquired GM's European brands Opel & Vauxhall  in 2017, before becoming part of the FCA Fiat/Chrysler N.America merger, Stellantis in 2021.
